Concrete in central Oklahoma has to survive two things: clay that swells and shrinks underneath it, and a temperature range that runs from ice storms to triple digits. Both crack concrete that was poured without a plan for them.
The plan is mostly base and joints. A compacted base spreads the load so the slab is not bridging soft spots, and control joints put the inevitable crack where it was intended to go instead of diagonally across the middle of a new driveway. Concrete cracks. Good flatwork decides where.
We pour driveways, patios, walkways and the slabs that additions and shop buildings sit on, and we tear out and replace flatwork that has already lost the argument with the soil under it.
