Where We Work.

Crazy Construction works a 60 mile radius around the Oklahoma City metro. The towns below are where most of the work happens, and the housing in each one is different enough that the same remodel means different things in each.

Oklahoma City, OK

Oklahoma City covers an enormous footprint and almost every decade of American housing, which means a remodel here is really several different jobs depending on the address. The pre war and mid century stock in the older core has plaster, original hardwood worth saving and closed off floor plans. The suburban expansion has open plans and finishes that were chosen to hit a price.

Edmond, OK

Edmond is largely newer construction, and newer construction changes what a remodel is. The floor plan is usually already open, so the work is not knocking down walls. It is replacing the finishes that were value engineered out of the original build: builder grade cabinets, a laminate countertop, hollow core doors and lighting that was specified to a budget rather than a room.

Norman, OK

Norman runs on a different cycle to the rest of the metro because of the university. A large share of the housing is rented, which puts a premium on finishes that survive tenants and turn over quickly between them, and it concentrates the work into the months when the houses are empty.

Moore, OK

Moore has an unusual housing profile for the metro because a significant share of it was rebuilt within the last fifteen years. Newer construction means sound structure and current framing standards, and it means the remodels here are almost entirely about finish and layout rather than repair.

Yukon, OK

Yukon has grown quickly, and quick growth produces neighbourhoods where the houses are close in age and close in plan. That has a practical benefit for an owner: the same problems and the same opportunities repeat street to street, so the scope of a kitchen or a bathroom in one of these houses is well understood before we walk in.

Bethany, OK

Bethany is one of the most consistent pockets of mid century housing in the metro, which means most kitchens here were built for a way of cooking and eating that no longer matches how the room is used. The kitchen is closed off, the dining room next to it is barely used, and the wall between them is doing structural work.

Warr Acres, OK

Warr Acres holds the same era of housing as its neighbours, compact post war homes on established lots with mature trees. The houses are well built for their size and the constraint is almost always the plan rather than the structure: a kitchen that is closed in, one bathroom serving three bedrooms, and storage designed for how much less people owned.

Midwest City, OK

Midwest City was built quickly and deliberately to house workers at the air base, which gives it a housing stock that is unusually uniform in age and plan. Those houses were built to a sensible standard and they have held up, but they were built to a footprint, and the most common project here is adding the space the original plan never had.

Mustang, OK

Mustang has expanded outward onto larger lots, and larger lots change what people want built. Exterior work makes up much more of the mix here than it does inside the city: covered patios, shop slabs, driveways long enough to matter and outdoor space that is usable through an Oklahoma summer.
